The Building Process

While designing and building your own home might seem daunting, it can be one of the satisfying experiences in life. At Davies Homes, we work with you, for you, to minimise any stress and create enjoyment around the process. We build quality homes, on time, to budget.

Here’s what happens at each stage of the building process:

1. Visit us

Come and visit us at our show home in Cambridge’s St Kilda or our show room in Te Awamutu, and see for yourself the high finish of our work. Find out why we are different from the rest. Talk to our friendly team who can answer any questions you may have.

2. Initial design meeting and site visit

The best way for us to envisage what you want for your home is to meet you on your land and talk through your vision and ideas. Director and owner Daniel Davies will talk through ideas on how to gain the most from building on the site – taking in the sun and wind directions, views and more.

3. Concept design and fixed-term quote

Following one or more design concept meetings with Daniel, a design will be ready, along with a cost estimate for the entire build. Once you have accepted the estimate your house plans are prepared in a variety of required formats, including full 3D images and building plans. Your selections for items throughout the home, including bathroom and kitchen fittings are documented.

4. Contract and building consent

We present you with a fixed-price contract for approval. Once you’re happy with this, the contract, working drawings, specification details and guarantee documentation are signed. We apply for consent(s) to Council.

5. Colours, finishes and the finer things

While your plans are at council our team will set up a series of meetings with you to help you choose the colours and finishes of your new home. Meet with the electrician, kitchen designers, carpet people and more. These choices complete your vision for your home, so have fun!

6. Construction begins

Once we receive consented plans from the local council we confirm with you a build start date and from there an indicative timeline. Our team will show you how to use BuilderTrend – an online tool to show you what is happening with your build every step of the way. You will have regular site visits with Daniel, who personally manages each build. Progress payments will be required as per the contract.

7. Quality Inspections

We make regular quality inspections throughout the build process. Once your new home is completed we make a full final quality inspection.

8. Completion

Once your home is completed we will have your home professionally cleaned and arrange for the final Council inspection. Daniel will meet you at your home so that you can inspect it with him, ensuring everything is as it should be. Then we hand the keys over, with your welcome pack that details everything you need to know about your new home.

9. Time to Move In!

At last, the moment has arrived. It’s time for you to move in and enjoy your new beautiful new home. But that isn’t the last you have heard from us – we check in with you again a week or so later to make sure everything is as it should be – and then again a few months down the track.
